Step in the right direction

Lead Summary

It wasn’t the “W” that the Nashua-Plainfield girls basketball team so desperately craves, but Saturday’s game against North Butler certainly was a step in the right direction.
A day after falling to Class 3A second-ranked Osage 61-21, the Huskies rebounded with what their coach called “our most complete game of the season” in a 55-43 loss to North Butler, which just happens to be the Huskies’ opponent next Thursday when the Class 1A regional tournament opens.
“I definitely saw some things we can build on, and to me, the big thing is I felt like we did a better job of taking care of the basketball,” Nashua-Plainfield coach Josh Smith said. “We still had too many turnovers, but we definitely took a step in the right direction.”
The Huskies trailed 15-12 after the first quarter, and the Bearcats extended the lead to 30-17 at halftime.
Down 43-26 heading into the fourth quarter, Nashua-Plainfield cut the deficit into single digits in the final frame before North Butler put the game away at the free-throw line.
