Some good; some not so good
There have been times early this season that New Hampton/Turkey Valley wrestling coach Nick Hemann has been a bit conflicted.
Take the Chickasaws’ recent performances on the mat, for example. On the up side, New Hampton/Turkey Valley destroyed a couple of Northeast Iowa Conference opponents — outscoring Oelwein and Waukon 141-9 — during a triangular Thursday night. On the down side, the Chickasaws struggled at times Saturday as they finished in a tie for fourth at a loaded South Winneshiek Invitational.
“Sometimes I do; sometimes I don’t,” Hemann said when asked if he felt like his team was heading in the right direction, “but that may be a little bit of the perfectionist in me. … I do think when we get everyone at the weight we need them to be at, we’re going to be fine. We’ve got to keep trying to stay positive, weather the storm and learn from these tournaments.”
Hemann liked — liked a lot — the way his wrestlers performed Thursday night.
