Sizzling Huskies
All of a sudden, the Nashua-Plainfield team has heated up.
The Huskies won three of four games in the past week — beating Rockford 7-6, pounding Lake Mills 12-6, falling to Hampton-Dumont 6-5 and routing Tripoli 10-0 — and their timing couldn’t be better.
“We’re red hot right now, and with the playoffs starting next week, I couldn’t ask for much more,” said Nashua-Plainfield coach Levi Miller, whose team is 9-14 overall and finished the Top of Iowa Conference season with a 7-10 record, not bad for a team that went 0-16 in conference games a year ago. “We have a plan for every at-bat and every pitch and the guys are sticking to it right now.”
The win over Rockford came in dramatic fashion.
More on the story may be found in the July 5 Reporter. Nashua-Plainfield will open the Class 1A district baseball tournament on Tuesday when it travels to Gladbrook-Reinbeck to play BCLUW.
Game time is set for 5 p.m., and the winner of that game will play either Gladbrook-Reinbeck or Rockford on Thursday, July 12, in a semifinal game that is scheduled to start around 7 p.m.
The district championship game is set for Saturday, July 14, at Gladbrook-Reinbeck, while the substate game will be played in Cedar Falls on Tuesday, July 17, at 7 p.m.
