Short-handed Trojans get win, improve to 5-1 in conference

Turkey Valley isn’t as much of a pass-the-ball-until-you-find-the-open-girl team as they were a year ago. 
Against North Fayette Valley Thursday, the Lady Trojans only finished with two assists, but they still started the 2018 year with a 53-43 win over the TigerHawks.
“We are really more of drive-to-the-basket-and-draw-fouls team this year, so we don’t have many assists,” co-coach Dan Stepan explained. “But we also lead the state in free throw attempts so we are a different team this year, which is different for the coaching staff and we have embraced it.”
The game had a slow start — with neither team scoring the first several minutes — but by the end of the first quarter Turkey Valley owned a 7-3 lead. The TV girls pushed the lead to 10 points midway through the third quarter, but with two minutes left the TigerHawks came back within four, 47-43. From there the Turkey Valley points came one at a time.
