‘Real season’ begins for N-P wrestling team
It isn’t that the last two months haven’t meant anything, but ask Nashua-Plainfield coach Al Frost about the Top of Iowa tournament on Saturday and the excitement rises in his voice.
“The real season starts on Saturday,” he said of the 16-team meet that will be held at Forest City and be followed a week later by the Class 1A sectional tournament. “I want these boys to realize that this is the time of the year all that work can pay off for them. I don’t think we’re quite there yet, but we’re getting there.”
The Huskies closed out the regular season with two dual losses at the South Winneshiek triangular last Tuesday and a solid fourth-place finish at the Doug Trees Invitational in Greene this past Saturday.
And Frost wants his team to have lofty goals when they arrive in Forest City Saturday morning.
“I think we can put together a top-five finish,” he said. “Lake Mills is probably the head-and-shoulders team above everyone else, but we’re going to fill every weight and we’ve got some guys, I think, that can score some points for us to get into the top five.”
