Ready to make some noise

Nashua-Plainfield senior Mason Hyde laughed at the question: If God came down and said, one or the other — hitting or pitching — what would he do?
“Well, first I hope God doesn’t make me make that choice,” he answered.
So, too, does his coach, Levi Miller.
“It’s been so good having him back on the bump,” Miller said, “but we love his bat, too. He’s our leader, no question about it. We have a lot of great kids on this team, but Mason obviously is a special baseball player.”
The senior improved to 4-1 and lowered his earned-run average to 0.91 with a dominating performance in a 2-0 win over Central Springs last Tuesday, and the Huskies ended a 2-2 week on Monday with a solid 9-3 win over North Iowa High.
Hyde, who seems like he’s been playing varsity baseball forever, is having a banner senior season after enduring a junior year in which he was limited to two pitching performances because of an arm injury.
Against the Panthers, who are coached by Levi Miller’s brother Ethan, he may have been at his very best as he tossed a three-hitter, struck out 13 and walked none.
