Ramping it back up!

Laying the hammer down.
That’s something Marissa Cahoy and Carlee Rochford look to do plenty of this fall at a volleyball net near you.
Opponents beware.
That talented and athletic tandem will be two major forces up front for Jess Geerts and her New Hampton Chickasaw volleyball squad when the season gets under way in Nashua tonight.
Rochford, a junior, will be switching roles with Cahoy this fall. As Geerts’ heaviest hitter last year, Cahoy rained down 125 kills on to the hardwood as a freshman middle. She’ll move to left outside hitter in 2021 and Rochford will take her place in the middle position.
“She’s obviously our top hitter. We want to make sure she gets as many swings as possible,” said Geerts.
Cahoy, a 6-footer for New Hampton that possesses explosive power with her right hand, will be a focal point all season for defenses as they try to limit her power near the net. Cahoy earned honorable-mention all-conference last season and was the lone freshman recognized as all-NEIC.
“We’re obviously going to lean on her. She’s our best player. She’s very, very talented,” said Rochford.Geerts, starting her 16th season at New Hampton, is excited about the possibilities that may arise by letting loose her top strikers back from a year ago that will produce points in different roles.
“An outside attacker can typically hit a lot of out-of-system balls versus a middle or a right side,” said Geerts. “We shifted her (Cahoy) out there and she really likes it. She looks good out there.”
