Old nemesis ends New Hampton’s softball season

Lead Summary

When the Lexus sits in the garage, it’s easy to slide the keys in the ignition and roll the luxury vehicle out on to the highway.
Such is the case with the Crestwood Cadet softball team and its star, elite pitcher Laken Lienhard.
The all-state hurler had her engine hummin’ inside the pitcher’s circle against the New Hampton Chickasaws on Friday night in Cresco.
The Class 3A, Region 6 semifinal matchup between the two Northeast Iowa Conference foes went the way of the 12th-rated Cadets by a score of 7-0.
Crestwood remained undefeated at 15-0 overall and will play for a trip to the state tournament in Fort Dodge on Monday against sixth-ranked Algona (15-1) on the Bulldogs home field in the regional championship.
“She’s not one of the best pitchers in our state for no reason. I think we all saw that tonight,” said first-year New Hampton coach Lisa Rude. “We just needed to put the ball in play.”
