NH/TV remains unbeaten

Lead Summary

Nick Hemann was on to something Wednesday morning.
The night before, his New Hampton/Turkey Valley team rolled by Maquoketa Valley 76-3 and survived a less-than-inspired performance to beat North Fayette Valley 42-28, and while the veteran coach wasn’t ecstatic — heck, he wasn’t even close – with the Chickasaws’ night, he was also far from downcast.
“Hey, we are 6-0 and the sun did come up this morning,” he said. “The sky is not falling. Do we have work to do? Absolutely, we have a ton of work to do. But I still think when it all plays out, we’re going to be just fine.”
The Chickasaws opened the night with a rout as Maquoketa Valley forfeited seven weights; Conner Gorman, Clayton Taylor, Trey Throndson, Tayton Messler and Carter Reicks all recorded pins and Mason Cleveland scored a major decision.
“Obviously, you want more matches, but it is what it is,” Hemann said. “But it was one of those deals where we had Maquoketa Valley first, sat around for the next dual and then quite honestly, we just weren’t that sharp against North Fayette.”
Save for a Max Babcock pin at 152, the Chickasaws got off a slow start against the TigerHawks, who took an early 9-6 lead, but New Hampton rebounded — Marcus Herold took a forfeit at 195 and Evan Rosonke and Carter Reicks came up with quick pins at 220 and 285, respectively — to take a 24-9 lead.
