NH/TV bounces back with a pair of dual victories
New Hampton/Turkey Valley’s wrestling team got just what it needed Tuesday night as the Chickasaws bounced back from a rough weekend to post two impressive dual meet victories.
“It was a good night, no question,” New Hampton/Turkey Valley coach Nick Hemann said after his team beat Union 45-24 and bounced Center Point-Urbana 52-16. “We needed it, and I liked the way we responded after what was obviously a tough stretch for our guys.”
The Chickasaws were coming off a three-day stretch in which they lost two Northeast Iowa Conference dual meets and went 1-5 at The Clash, a prestigious dual meet tournament in Rochester, Minn.
And while New Hampton/Turkey Valley is running yet another gauntlet — with Tuesday’s triangular, a quadrangular Thursday and a tournament Saturday — Hemann said he felt like his team took a step in the right direction.
“It’s another gauntlet, a different one for sure, but it’s tough to weigh in three times in a week,” he said. “I told our guys we need to get off on the right foot, and they did that.”
The Union dual featured two ranked dual teams as New Hampton/Turkey Valley is ranked third in Class 2A while the Knights are fifth.
