New Hampton's Stochl claims 2A individual golf title

 
New Hampton senior Carter Stochl stamped himself into the history books Saturday as he became the first Chickasaw in school history to claim an individual state golf championship.
Stochl fired a 4-under-par 68 Saturday to win the Class 2A title at Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge.
The future UNI golfer finished the two-day tournament with at 4-under-par to beat three players — Panorama’s Will Babcock, Shenandoah’s Ryan Ruzek and Aplington-Parkersburg’s Dylan Ellis — by two strokes.
“He just played lights out golf for two days, but today he really took his game up a notch,” New Hampton coach Bill Glenn said. “I can’t tell you how happy I am for that young man.”
A year ago, Stochl was denied a state tournament spot despite tying for second place in the medalist competition at the district tournament.
“He handled that with a heck of a lot of class,” Glenn said. “He didn’t pout; instead, he went out and played a ton of golf and made himself an even better player.”
New Hampton finished seventh in the team race with a two-day total of 629, and Glenn said he was proud of his entire team that included Stochl and his younger brother, Wyatt, Ryan Anderson, Keegan Tenge, Aden Zwanziger and Eric Shatek.
“We were hoping for a higher team finish,” Glenn said, “but then I look up and see we put a 312 up there today and I’m not going to complain at all. The kids did a great job. Period. End of story.”
