New Hampton volleyball takes third at Crestwood

Lead Summary

Coach Jess Geerts called the one New Hampton loss in the Crestwood Invitational over the weekend a "mental hiccup.""We were by far the best team there," she said after the Chickasaws finished third in the tourney. "We played well, just one match didn't go well."After winning 2-0 over Kee High, Waterloo West and Lisbon, the stumble came as North Fayette Valley won over New Hampton 25-12, 25-22. Although the TigerHawks only had one loss on the season, Geerts felt her team should have won."Crestwood beat them in the finals, if that tells you anything," she lamented, as the Chickasaws were fresh off a 3-1 win over the Cadets Tuesday at New Hampton. After the loss, New Hampton again defeated Kee for third place and took two all-tourney spots as both Emma Nicolaisen and Lauren Frerichs earned the honors. Nicolaisen finished the day with 23 kills, 20 digs and a 47-for-49 serving effort with three aces while Frerichs had 38 assists and six aces on 28-for-31 serves.New Hampton only missed one serve during the first match of the day, a 21-10, 21-7 win over Kee High. Nicolaisen turned in six kills, Frerichs nine assists and 11-for-11 serving and Kayla Gilbert had five digs. Six different NH girls each recorded an ace.Details on each of the matches may be found in the Sept. 13 Tribune.
