New Hampton tops W-SR by one
Even with over eight inches of snow falling in the area Wednesday, the Chickasaw trapshooters were hoping for a meet the next day. A contingent of shovelers, including coach Chuck Stanton, were out clearing the runways when the snow ended.“It might turn into a lake tomorrow,” said Stanton. “We might have to shoot out of canoes, that would make it interesting, wouldn’t it?”The Wednesday storm followed a meet the trapshooters were able to get in Tuesday against Waverly-Shell Rock, which was a rematch of the first meet of the season back on April 5.In that meet the Go-Hawks had the top squad, but this time New Hampton won, with NH Red scoring a 231. “We beat them by one shot and they’re a solid team,” Stanton said of the Red win. NH White and NH Gray also scored above 200 with a 211 and 203 respectively.Katie Holschlag won the girls title for the fourth straight meet with a 45. Chickasaw fans might remember Holschlag’s siblings — Anna and Matt — also shot trap. “I think that helps, it certainly doesn’t hurt being around it like she’s been. Katie, she’s shooting pretty solid right now.”
