New Hampton has four honored in baseball
Tradition is a word often associated with New Hampton baseball and for good reason.
Chickasaw head coach Cory McDonald has undoubtedly produced the best stretch of sustained success in New Hampton baseball history in his 10-plus years at the helm of the program.
With that ability to win games and mold talent into winning ball clubs year after year comes recognition for those achievements.
Those honors and accolades were handed out recently as the Northeast Iowa All-Conference teams were selected.
New Hampton – which played to an 11-10 mark and claimed a district title in 2020 – saw four Chickasaws crack the all-conference team in seniors Hunter Pesek and Austin Hemann, along with junior Conner Rochford and sophomore Drake Wemark.
Pesek, McDonald’s senior center fielder and table setter at his leadoff spot, was one of two Chickasaws that earned first-team all-league distinction. Pesek, a third-team Class 2A all-state selection as a junior, led New Hampton in hitting with a .385 average his senior season. He was also tops in the team in home runs (2), hits (25) and tied for the team lead in runs (24) with Wemark.
