New Hampton gets off to fast start in NEIC

Lead Summary

Mason Cleveland is a big believer in momentum, which is why he believed it was so important for the New Hampton baseball team to get off to a fast start in Northeast Iowa Conference play.
The Chickasaws did just that as they opened conference play with three dominating wins — an 8-2 win over Waukon last Tuesday and a 10-0 and 11-1 sweep of Crestwood on Friday — and picked up a pair of non-conference wins to improve to 9-0 heading into a critical week of the season.
“Momentum is pretty big when it comes to our conference or any conference really,” said Cleveland, who picked up the win against Waukon with four solid innings of work on the mound. “We knew we had to get off to a good start with Decorah and Waverly coming up. We knew we needed to take some momentum into those games and now we have to keep it rolling.”
