New Hampton claims BCLUW volleyball crown
For the third time in four years, New Hampton came away with the title of the BCLUW Tournament Saturday, but it wasn't easy. Well, maybe the first two matches were. After defeating Collins-Maxwell and East Marshall 2-0, the Chickasaws lost to West Marshall 2-1 in their pool championship. Coach Jess Geerts didn't take any of those teams lightly. "You kind of worry about teams like Collins-Maxwell and East Marshall, you don't want to play down to their level. West Marshall, I had a feeling they would be good, we saw them play East Marshall and they looked good." With the loss, the Chickasaws then had to play the winner of the other pool, 1A, 8th-ranked North Tama. "I kind of wanted to play them, I mean, you never want to lose, but it gave us a chance to see how we stacked up against them." The Chickasaws won the first set 25-21, but the second game went to a 29-27 score before the NH girls pulled out the match win. That sent them back to play West Marshall in the tournament finals.
