New Hampton AD: We will follow the guidelines
New Hampton Activities Director Scott Frerichs has three words for Chickasaw fans when the winter sports season starts.
Follow the rules.
“We’re going to do what the governor and the associations are asking us to do,” Freichs said referring to the Iowa High School Athletic Association and the Iowa High School Girls Athletic Union, “and so that means two is really two.”
And two is the number of tickets each athlete will receive for games, and they’re good for just one game only.
That means a freshman basketball player will get two tickets good for the freshman game only. A wrestler will get two tickets for a dual meet.
“We’ll clear the gym after each game,” Frerichs said, “and we need every fan to wear a mask. That’s the rules, and we’re going to follow them.”
The lull between fall and winter sports hasn’t been much of a lull for Frerichs, who is in his first year as New Hampton’s AD. Junior high sports began the week of Nov. 9, and then last week, Gov. Kim Reynolds’ put the kibosh on those contests through at least Dec. 10. Although the Chickasaw junior high girls basketball and wrestling teams have games and meets after that date, the school has pulled the plug on those sports.
