N-P girls see season come to end
Forget the record, Nashua-Plainfield coach Josh Smith knows Sierra Fisher, Abby Lumley and the rest of his players are all winners. Yes, the Huskies’ season ended Saturday night with a 3-20 record after a 70-31 loss to Waterloo Columbus in a Class 2A regional opener in which Nashua-Plainfield played without two key players. For Fisher and Lumley, the loss ended careers where they may not have won very often on the court but they certainly were victorious in other ways. “Those two girls were great leaders, great workers and just great kids,” Smith said. “I know there are people who will say we didn’t have a successful season, but the way our kids worked, the way they battled, I will tell you the lessons they learned this year are going to lead to some very successful lives. And it starts with those two seniors.” Still, it was a difficult ending for Fisher and Lumley, and they wore their emotions on their sleeves when the final buzzer sounded Saturday.
