N-P girls drop a pair of Top of Iowa games
Josh Smith knows the record — or even the recent scores — might not say it, but the Nashua-Plainfield girls basketball coach sees progress in his team, despite an eight-game losing streak that has dropped the Huskies to 1-10 overall and 1-7 in Top of Iowa Conference East Division play.
“I think we have a lot of individuals that have come a long way,” Smith said after his team fell to Central Springs 39-13 and West Fork 60-16 last week, “and have gotten a lot better feel for what we’re trying to do. Defensively our intensity has picked up as a result of the confidence and knowledge in what we’re running.”
The issue, as it has been all season long, is Nashua-Plainfield’s penchant for turnovers. The Huskies are averaging 33.3 a game, and Smith said one thing he’d like his girls to focus on in the latter parts of the season is to relax.
