Moving on
By the time Savannah Anderson took the mound to pitch in New Hampton’s first round regional game against Waukon Wednesday, the Chickasaws had an 8-0 lead. “Yes, that was very comforting,” said the junior. “It’s nice to have that insurance.” And while Waukon — the home team on the scoreboard — did come back with five runs in the bottom half of the inning, Anderson and the Chickasaw defense would hold the Indians scoreless the rest of the game, which ended in six innings with a 17-5 New Hampton win. “We were hoping we’d be able to 10-run them, that was the goal,” Anderson said. The Chickasaws had seven hits in the first inning alone, which took a full 35 minutes to complete. Lauren Frerichs started with a single and scored, later in the inning she doubled and scored. “It was fun,” said Frerichs. “We were ready to go, we had a lot of energy the whole game.”
