Mikkelson’s ballpark up for ‘Diamond of the Year’

The “Home of the Chickasaws” is up for a prestigious award that will be handed out later this month during the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association’s annual convention.
The Mikkelson Park field is up for one of the “2019 IHSBCA Diamond of the Year” awards, thanks in large part to a group of dedicated volunteers and donors that led to dramatic renovations of the field during the last decade.
“We are very proud that our renovation project has truly been a small-town community effort,” New Hampton High School baseball coach Cory McDonald said. “Most of the thousands and thousands of dollars we raised came from dozens and dozens of individual donors via a letter-writing campaign and personal solicitations.”
