Mary Anne Shekleton, 94
Mary Anne Shekleton, 94, of New Hampton, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, June 23, 2019, at her home. Mary Anne was born the eldest child, to Henry and Amalia “Molly” (Glaser) Gilbert on May 11, 1925 in New Hampton, Iowa. She graduated from St. Mary Catholic Grade School and St. Mary Catholic High School in North Washington, Iowa. Following high school, Mary Anne ventured off to college in Carroll, Iowa, and graduated at the top of her class from St. Anthony College of Nursing earning her R.N. Degree in 1947. Mary Anne was united in marriage to Patrick Shekleton on October 18, 1948, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Washington, Iowa. She was a hard working and loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with all of her grandchildren. Mary Anne spent countless hours working in her vegetable garden, which she found great joy in. She was a devout catholic with unwavering faith, never missing her daily prayers and most of all, she loved praying the rosary. Her way of life was an inspiration for all of her family to carry on for generations. She will be deeply missed by her many family and friends. Survivors include seven children, Charles (Maxine) Shekleton, Farmersburg, Mary Patricia (Donald) Voss, Monona, Thomas (Jane) Shekleton, New Hampton, Joan (Daniel) Kobliska, New Hampton, Gerard Shekleton, New Hampton, Anne (Henry) Sehy, Vicksburg, MI, Therese (Frank) Scallan, Waucoma; 31 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Norbert (June) Gilbert, Waverly, Harry (Pat) Gilbert, New Hampton; sister-in-law, Margaret Shekleton, New Hampton and several nieces and nephews. Mary Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Molly Gilbert; her husband, Patrick Shekleton on September 8, 2006; one daughter, Paula Shekleton in infancy; one granddaughter, Sarah Sehy; one great-grandson, Lane Sehy; her siblings, Agnes (Virgil) Lentz, Alvin (Pat) Gilbert, Marceile (Herb) Christoph, Doris (Louis) Haskovec; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Walter (Rosella) Shekleton, James (Margaret) Shekleton, Eugene Shekleton, Mary (Lester) Rouchka and John “Jack” Shekleton. Visitation will be Thursday, June 27, 2019 from 4-8 pm at Holy Family Parish, New Hampton, Iowa, with a Scripture Service following the visitation. There will also be a one hour visitation before Mass at the Church on Friday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Friday, June 28, 2019 at Holy Family Parish, New Hampton, Iowa.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton, Iowa.
