Kee rallies to end Trojan girls’ season

After trailing 14-11 at the half, things were looking up for Turkey Valley in the second half of a regional game against Kee High of Lansing Wednesday night.
But Lansing Kee had other ideas as it erased an eight-point third-quarter deficit to catch the Trojans in the end and score a 31-30 victory.
When Jordan Lukes hit her third straight 3-pointer in the second half, and Katlyn Baumler followed with an inside shot, the Trojans had a 23-18 lead with 2:10 left in the quarter. After a steal by Jalyssa Blazek, Lukes added another long shot to go up 26-18.
“Unfortunately, we couldn’t keep the offensive fire going in the fourth and didn’t do well with our free throws,” coach Carla Nymeyer said. “Kee’s Makayla Walleser connected on 7-of-8 at the line to crawl their way back and go up by one.”
Lansing only scored one basket in the fourth quarter as their final eight points all came at the free throw line.
“We had our chance at the end on a side out of bounds play with 7.9 seconds in our front court,” Nymeyer said. “The play was busted but Kara Reicks created a nice look with a jumper from the elbow…it rattled in and out as time expired.”
This was the third time the teams played this season.
