Huskies take giant strides on the court
Two weeks ago, the Nashua-Plainfield volleyball season seemed to be going nowhere. The Huskies were 2-10 and mired in a nine-match losing streak and hadn’t won a single set during the skid. My oh my, how things have changed. After taking second at its own invitational on Sept. 16, the Huskies put together their best week of the season — beating North Butler 3-1 in a Top of Iowa Conference match Tuesday and then going 3-2 at a solid Dunkerton Invitational on Saturday. “The biggest things I saw from last week is the girls working for each other,” Nashua-Plainfield coach Amber Carter said. “I have seen this in other weeks prior, too, but this week something clicked for the girls. I couldn't be more proud of the way they played.” Nashua-Plainfield opened the week with a 25-22, 28-26, 14-25, 25-18 victory over arguably its biggest rival. And it was a total team effort as Liberty Fisher had 12 kills, Sydney Hansen finished with nine kills and dished out 31 assists, Britney Holthaus had 12 digs, Meghan Wright had six service aces and Morgan Kapping finished with seven kills and two solo blocks.
