Huskies see some bright spots in a pair of losses
The Nashua-Plainfield girls basketball team may not have gotten wins last week, but the Huskies found some positives in losses to Rockford and Northwood-Kensett.
Start with the bench players, who scored 20 points in a 52-36 loss to Rockford.
“We definitely got some solid production off the bench, but we have also been switching things up as of recently to try to find some lineups that will click,” Nashua-Plainfield coach Josh Smith said. “For example we had Breanna Hackman and Chloe Matthews come off the bench in that game and they have been starters for us pretty much all season. On the other hand we have been trying to be more intentional about getting some of the younger girls some more minutes.”
Jaycie Bilharz and Breanna Hackman both came off the bench to score six points and joined starter Katie White for the team lead in points.
And Nashua-Plainfield, despite a slow start that saw them facing a 15-4 disadvantage at the end of the first quarter and a 24-10 half-time deficit, continued to battle throughout the game.
“Jaycie Bilharz hit two big threes for us and had two more that hit the back rim,” Smith said. “Abbie Hyde came in and is always just absolutely relentless on defense and what we’re seeing now is her offense come along as well.
