Huskies fall in district opener

Lead Summary

The Nashua-Plainfield boys basketball team wrapped up its season a little sooner than they wanted to last Thursday, falling 58-50 to Ackley-Geneva-Wellsburg-Steamboat Rock (AGWSR) in Class 1A, District 4 action at Rockford.
In a back-and-forth defensive struggle that featured 10 lead changes, the Huskies had their chances in the final minutes, but couldn’t convert.
“We had a couple opportunities to make it closer, and I think if we could have converted on those we would have had a chance to win, but we didn’t execute,” said N-P coach Sam Brown. “I think we if we would have executed a little better, we could have won.”
Leading 38-34 after three quarters, AGWSR went on a 7-3 run to increase the lead to eight points. After the teams exchanged a few buckets, N-P later responded with a back-to-back baskets to make it 48-44 with 2:30 left to play, but that would be as close as the Huskies would get.
