Have a day!
Working on the weekend?
Heck, Dylan Usher even put in a little overtime this week and in the process earned his first career victory out on the cross country course.
After finishing in the runner-up position in his first four consecutive meets to start the 2020 season, Usher can finally claim gold in this, his junior campaign.
Usher raced to the front of the pack at Independence on Saturday and held off all challengers to cross the finish line first in what had been a string of second-place finishes in the early stages of 2020 at Mason City, Waverly, Osage and on Tuesday at Waukon.
Usher has been lights out in 2020 - achieving a personal best time of 17:27 in the cold and blustery rain at Wartburg in Waverly in week two. While he didn’t achieve any PR’s at Waukon (17:52) and Independence (18:13), he did help his team to a runner-up finish in the team standings over the weekend.
The New Hampton boys team placed second (53) to Maquoketa Valley (47). Usher and all of his teammates had to punch in a few more added seconds on to their time cards as Independence’s course runs long.
“The course was about 210 meters too long, so again times did not reflect their true performances; however, I couldn’t be more proud of my team and their efforts today,” said New Hampton head coach Jamie Ohrt.
