Fun in the mud!

    As Mason Hyde caught the pass that put Nashua-Plainfield ahead 14-13 last Friday night, he knew the Huskies were bound for victory.    Sure, there was a quarter and change remaining in the game against Grundy Center, but Hyde knew.    “Our defense had played great, and once we got the lead there, we were going to win,” the senior said. “I’d almost would have guaranteed it right there. No way were we going to lose that game.”    The Huskies didn’t as they held off Grundy Center to not only improve to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in Class A, District 3 play but also remain very much in the playoff hunt.    “I just can’t tell you how doggone proud of these kids I am right now,” Nashua-Plainfield coach Chase Sudol said after the game, “wasn’t the prettiest game ever, but dang, they found a way to win. They showed a ton of heart.”    Did they ever.    The Huskies overcame a night in which they had just 59 yards in total offense; instead, they used a huge special teams play and a defense that may have bent a few times but never broke to secure the team’s biggest win since the Huskies advanced to the Class A quarterfinals in 2014.
