Former Chickasaw presented Character Counts! award during girls state tourney

    A member of the New Hampton state champion cross country teams of 1981 and ‘82, Sandy [Havlik] Sabelka has been coaching the same sport at Denver for 14 seasons, where the former Chickasaw has met with much success both off and on the course.    At the Iowa girls state basketball tournament, Sabelka was the 2017 recipient of the CHARACTER COUNTS! award.    Sabelka coaches both the boys and girls squads at Denver. Her boys' teams won two conference titles, two state qualifying titles and seven teams have qualified for the state meet.  The rest of the story may be found in the March 14 Tribune.
