Enrollment takes tumble
It wasn’t the enrollment news New Hampton Community Schools was looking for, but it did provide a lesson in how mobile society has become.Superintendent Jay Jurrens delivered the bad news — New Hampton’s certified enrollment had dropped by 1.8 percent — to the School Board on Monday night.“It’s not what we wanted obviously,” Jurrens said, “but we’ll deal with it, and it just shows you how transient we really are.”New Hampton’s certified enrollment a year ago was 981.7 while this year it dropped to 963.8, and certified enrollment is a critical number for school districts because it lets them know how much state funding they will receive next year.Originally, the district had projected it would see its enrollment drop by about 10 this year, but in September, there was hope that the district would do better than it expected. For the complete story see the 10/21/2016 New Hampton Tribune.
