Elma honors its veterans

Family, friends and residents came to honor the World War II veterans who gave all for their country and the ones who were lucky to come home and enjoy this event years later. There were 16 veterans honored at the Elma Memorial Hall on Sunday evening and three are still living to be able to enjoy the event with their friends and family.The 82 active American Legion members hosted this event and wanted to honor all the World War II veterans. There were three living honorees who all served in the Army during World War II. Veterans Lou Priebe, Orville Zubrod and Fern Hammond were honored with a meal and different speakers throughout the evening.Priebe served in the Army Infantry from 1942 through 1947 and was part of the D-Day invasion at Omaha Beach.Zubrod served in the Army from 1945 through 1947 and was stationed in Italy.
