Cooler than usual, WSR meet is also a windy one

    After getting married last weekend and hosting her reception at Waverly, Jamie Quass Ohrt was back to Waverly on Tuesday as the annual Go-Hawk cross country invitational was held on the grounds of Wartburg College.    A change was made this year to the format of the meet, which cut time off the overall length of the event.        In the past each high school class would run a girls and a boys race, but that took a long time. This year at the high school level girls and boys 9-10 races were held, along with 11-12 girls and boys races. Four races instead of eight, preceeded by middle school girls and boys races.    Results, though, were still broken down into classes and each class needed at least three runners to qualify for a team score. Most, but not all New Hampton times were a bit slower than the first Chickasaw meet of the season at Mason City.    “It was really windy,” said Ohrt. “And I’m not going to say there were hills, but there were more slopes compared to Newman.”    The New Hampton junior girls finished eighth of 12 complete teams, although in all there were roughly 25 schools in attendance.    Olivia Burke led the Chickasaw junior girls with an eighth place finish of 107 runners while Sadie Tenge was 18th in 22:55.
