Chickasaws take second at state golf
New Hampton’s valiant comeback came up just three shots short Wednesday as the Chickasaws had to settle for a second straight second-place finish at the state golf meet.A year after taking second in the Class 3A tournament, the Chickasaws entered the final day of this year’s Class 2A meet trailing Van Meter by 14 strokes and went out and shot the best team-round of the day, a 361.But Van Meter’s two-day total of 733 bested New Hamtpon’s 736, which was 11 shots better than third-place Okojboi.Allison Nuss finished with an 81 Wednesday and tied for fourth in the overall medalist competition while Morgan Nuss added an 88. Emma Ewert fired a 93 and Barbara Schwickerath rounded out the second-day scorers with a 99. Marcy Uglum added a 104 and Regan Gebel finished with a 107.Allison Nuss’ two-day total was 163 while her sister finished 13th in the individual standings with a 174.The state meet concluded the high school careers of Schwickerath, Uglum and Callie Speltz, who was an alternate during the two-day meet at Lake Panorama National Golf Course.— See complete coverage in the June 1 Tribune
