Chickasaws take second at home tourney

    Tripoli hadn't lost a set yet, and up to Saturday, neither had New Hampton.    So somebody's record had to give when the two teams met in the Chickasaw volleyball invitational, and unfortunately, it was New Hampton's record.    But on the way to their second-place finish, the NH girls defeated two other ranked teams, Don Bosco and Sumner-Fredericksburg.    Chickasaw head coach Jess Geerts, though, doesn't put much stock in rankings this early in the season.    "A lot of that is what they did last year and who they have back, still, any time you can beat a ranked team it's a step forward."    The Dons came into the day with two losses — both to Iowa City Regina — and ranked 14th in Class 1A. New Hampton started with a 2-0 win, 21-19, 21-15.    Still without Maddi Moorman, who injured an ankle in the season opener, the Chickasaws had Kallie Olson in the middle hitter spot.    "Kallie held her own," said Geerts. "We maybe didn't get as many blocks as we would have with Maddi in there, but Kallie did a solid job serving."    The first match of the day saw the Chickasaws score their most kills of the tournament with 26 and have the best kill efficiency of .321. The kills were evenly spread, led by Kerigan Tenge with six. Savannah Anderson had six digs and was 11-for-11 serving with one ace, Kaelyn Ambrose blocked three attacks and Rachel Rinken aced twice.
