Chickasaws ‘right there’ with W-SR
The first, third and fourth quarters were just fine for the New Hampton girls basketball team Tuesday night, but unfortunately, they’re called quarters for a reason; in other words, there are four of them.
“We take away that second quarter and we’re right there with them,” Chickasaw coach Chad Pemble said after his team fell 50-36 to Waverly-Shell Rock. “I saw a lot of good things, and obviously we learned that it takes four quarters but take that one quarter away and we played really well.”
The Chickasaws led 15-14 after one quarter before the Go-Hawks outscored New Hampton 18-2 in the second eight minutes.
The dagger, so to speak, may have been a flurry of three 3-pointers the Go-Hawks hit in the frame’s final 90 seconds to take a 32-17 lead at halftime.
But New Hampton didn’t roll over in the second half and twice cut the lead into single digits but could get no closer than eight points.
