Chickasaws record season-best times
Both head coach Jamie Quass Ohrt and assistant coach Bob Vorwald made comments to the cross country runners before the Jesup meet Tuesday. Ohrt told the athletes it would be a perfect day to break records with low temperatures, a flat course and not much wind. “Bob told the varsity girls ‘why don’t you mix up the order a little bit?’ and they took him to heart,” said Ohrt. They actually listened well to both coaches. Ten girls ran their best time of the season, so did all seven of the boys as the girls were 15th of the 25 schools that attended and the boys were 19th of 28 schools. And leading the varsity girls was sophomore Lydia Gessner, in 34th place of 143 runners. This was the fourth time in six meets Gessner has set a new personal record and the first time she finished ahead of team leader Olivia Burke. “Last night was an awesome experience!” said Gessner. “I have always looked up to Olivia and I am always amazed at how hard she works and what an amazing runner she is! It was very cool to be able to even keep up by her this season and I have felt honored to be part of team with such incredible girls.”
