Chickasaws pull away for win

New Hampton senior Tristan Sweitzer admits that he’s always gotten just as much of a kick as making a pretty pass as hitting a key 3-point shot, but what the Chickasaws have shown early in the season is that Sweitzer isn’t the only one loves gift-wrapping an assist on the basketball court.
And the latest example was presented on Saturday night, as the unselfish Chickasaws overcame a bit of a slow start to roll past Turkey Valley 63-38 for their third straight victory.
“I don’t know, I think it’s some of it’s just natural,” Sweitzer said after finishing the night with 14 points and four assists, three of which can described as simply spectacular. “I like getting my teammates good shots, layups and stuff. I think all of us know we’re a lot better team when we move the ball.”
After a spotty first quarter — Turkey Valley actually led 13-10 five minutes into the game — New Hampton got untracked as Tanner Lane and Sweitzer hit 3-pointers to spark a run that gave the Chickasaws a 16-13 lead.
Although the Trojans scored just three points in the second quarter and trailed 27-16 at the break, Turkey Valley coach Chris Sullivan was far from downcast.
