Chickasaws pick up valuable experience

Lead Summary

New Hampton boys track coach Scott Frerichs said his Chickasaws got exactly what they needed Tuesday night when they opened the season at the Wartburg Select Indoor.
“It was good experience and it gave a lot of our new guys a taste of what varsity track is all about,” he said. “We found a lot we need to work on, but considering we haven’t had many practices, it was a decent start.”
And while the places, with one notable exception, weren’t great, Frerichs pointed out that there were 35-plus teams at the meet, including a number of Class 4A and 3A schools.
The Chickasaws were led by senior Noah Fenske, who finished second in the shot put with a throw of 53-8. Fenske led throughout the competition until Ames’ Kaseam Domond uncorked a throw of 55-1 on the final throw of the meet.
