Chickasaws hold 23-shot lead late in first round of state girls golf

The New Hampton girls golf team got off to a great start Tuesday at the Class 2A state tournament as the Chickasaws took a 23-shot lead before play was called off because of inclement weather.
When play was called, New Hampton as a team stood at 42 over par, 23 shots better than second-place Okoboji.
The Chickasaws’ Allison Nuss leads all individuals as she was 1-under-par with just one hole remaining while Dike-New Hartford’s Morgan Weber and Van Meter’s Kylie Carey both are at 3-over-par.
New Hampton’s Emma Ewert is tied for eighth place at 10-over-par, while teammate Morgan Nuss is at 11-over-par, which is good for a tie fore 12th place.
The tournament is scheduled to resume on Wednesday morning at the Ames Golf and Country Club, with players completing their first round and then playing the second and final round.
