Chickasaws have one goal — winning a title — at state duals

Ryan Gorman stood outside the Decorah High School locker room Saturday afternoon and was asked about his quest for an individual state wrestling championship.  He smiled and cut the reporter off.  “Whoa, the ultimate goal is to win the duals,” he said, “and then we can talk about the other stuff.”  And maybe that one sentence says it all about this edition of the Chickasaws. Winning a dual title is just as important — and maybe even more important – than individual glory.  “We talk about family and all that all the time,” said Gorman, who is one of six Chickasaws who will compete in the traditional state tournament on Thursday. “Winning duals, to me, is something everyone in the family can celebrate.”  Top-seeded New Hampton will begin its quest for its first state duals title since 2005 at 9 a.m. Wednesday, when it meets Denver-Tripoli in a first-round meet at Wells Fargo Arena.  The rest of the story may be found in the Feb. 14 Tribune.
