Chickasaws give coach milestone

The number of times Braydon Fisher knocked a foul ball out at Mikkelson Park during his final at-bat of the night in the sixth inning Friday were estimated between 12 and 15.
Fisher made that estimate himself, then verified the figure with a couple of coaches.
“I like to battle,” said the Chickasaw senior. “Coach tell us to keep competing and that’s what I did.”
After all those fouls, Fisher finally found one he could sink his teeth into, ripped it for a single and batted in an insurance run for New Hampton in a 3-1 win over Oelwein.
‘Coach’ would be Cory McDonald, and he too knows a little something about hanging in there. His first year at New Hampton was 2009, and he took over a program with ten consecutive losing seasons and only three winning seasons in the past 20 years. Now the program is on the verge of its 10th consecutive winning season.
And the victory over Oelwein was McDonald’s 300th win.
“We all knew,” Fisher said of the impending milestone. “Midway through the game the coaches were telling us ‘we’ve got to get this for him.’  It kind of lit a fire under us.”
