Chickasaws get a peek at regional
When the regional softball pairings were released a couple of weeks ago, New Hampton's second round opponent — should they get by their first round opponent, Waukon — was going to be Beckman. But when it was discovered right after the pairings came out that the Dyersville school was actually a 2A school, not 3A, a new possible second-round opponent was announced as Center Point-Urbana. Beckman had been ranked seventh when they were in Class 3A and Center Point-Urbana is now ranked eighth, so it's a pretty even tradeoff. And the Chickasaws gained some confidence over the weekend as CPU was one of three teams they beat at a tournament at Don Bosco. The Stormin' Pointers took the Chickasaws to eight innings before New Hampton recorded an 8-7 victory and the Chickasaws also beat Janesville 11-1 and Cedar Falls 7-2, but lost to 3A, ninth-ranked West Marshall, 9-1.
Details of the four games may be found in the July 4 Tribune.
