Chickasaws face challenging Saturday night
Saturday's consolation round didn't go as planned for New Hampton's wrestling team. The Chickasaws dropped all five matches as Noah Fye took sixth at 132, Noah Glaser finished sixth at 170 and Noah Hopp was eighth at 220 and saw a 7.5-point lead turn into a 3.5-point deficit as the Class 2A state tournament entered Saturday night's finals. Solon has 91.5 points while New Hampton sits at 88 in what has become a two-team race at the traditional state tournament, but New Hampton has three wrestlers in Saturday's finals while the Spartans have just two.The finals matchup for the two teams include the following:At 120, Solon's Bryce West meets Denver-Tripoli's Blake Steege. At 126, New Hampton's Michael Millage takes on Solon's Drew West.At 138, New Hampton's Keaton Geerts, who won the 132-pound title a year ago, will meet Ballard's Skyler Noftsger. And at 160, New Hampton's Ryan Gorman will take on Davenport Assumption's Julien Broderson in a rematch of a Battle of Waterloo match that Gorman won 5-4 back in December. So there are plenty of scenarios going into tonight's round, but the simplest way to a championship is if for Chickasaws win all three of their finals. If they do so, they will add the traditional tournament title to go along with the dual title they claimed on Wednesday.
