Chickasaws earn postseason golf honors
The New Hampton girls golf team, fresh off a second straight runner-up finish at the state golf tournament, is reaping a host of postseason awards.
After setting some new school records this year, Allison Nuss was named by the Des Moines Register to the All-Iowa Girls Golf team in Class 2A. She is the first New Hampton girls golfer to earn this award.
While leading the Chickasaws to a second-place finish at the state golf meet, Nuss finished with a 9-hole average of 40.00, which was first in Class 2A and an 18-hole average of 78.50, which was fourth in the class.
The 40.00 beat out Dike-New Hartford’s Morgan Weber with a 40.20, she was listed on the Register’s Elite team.
Nuss set a new nine-hole record at NHHS this year with a 37, then broke it with a 36. She also broke her own school 18-hole record at the second round of regionals with a 75.
The All-Iowa selections will be honored June 23 at the Register Sports Awards at Wells Fargo Arena.
Nuss also joined her sister Morgan and freshman Emma Ewert on the Iowa Golf Coaches Association’s Class 2A all-district team, and coach Eric Olson and his assistant, volunteer Paul Ewert were named the district coaches of the year.
The honors came after New Hampton earned its fourth straight Northeast Iowa Conference team title and advanced to the state meet for the third time in the past four seasons.
