Chickasaws are shy on selections
Chad Sweitzer chose his words carefully, but it didn’t take long to realize that the New Hampton boys basketball coach wasn’t thrilled with this year’s all-Northeast Iowa Conference teams. “It’s nice to have three guys honored,” he said, “but ... not having a first-teamer, only having one on the first and second teams ... I guess we’ll just have to take second in the conference [standings].” New Hampton’s three selections included sophomore guard Tristan Sweitzer, junior forward Keagan John and senior guard Zach Wemark. Sweitzer landed on the second team while John and Wemark were both honorable mention selections, which unlike in many conferences, are voted on by the NEIC coaches. While New Hampton finished all alone in second place in the conference, four teams — Charles City, Decorah, Crestwood and Waukon — that finished below the Chickasaws in the standings had more first-team and second-team selections.
