Chickasaw girls win second straight title
One thing Chickasaw girls track coach Jeanette Laures likes about this year’s group of seniors is how diversified they are. Between Hunter Gerber, Kayla Gilbert, Serina Hovden, Darian Wegner and Mariah Wickham, there’s sprinters, distance runners, throwers and jumpers. “It’s nice to have upperclassmen in each of those categories,” said Laures. “These girls lead very much by example, for the most part they’re not a vocal group.” It was the final home meet for those five seniors as the girls hosted the New Hampton Invitational Monday. It’s not every year the weather cooperates well enough for New Hampton to be able to hold both a coed meet and a girls meet, and the instances where the girls have won both titles is even rarer. But with 183 points — a full 60 points over runner-up Osage — that’s what the girls did this year when they followed their coed title with one at the New Hampton girls invite Monday.
