Chickasaw girls take ‘step up’ at Waterloo
Waterloo West’s Wahawk Relays is always one of the more challenging meets on the New Hampton girls track team’s schedule.
Thursday’s 11-team field included seven Class 4A schools and a pair of 3A teams, and even more daunting for the Chickasaws was that they were without one of their top runners as coach Jeanette Laures held out Claire Quirk, who is nursing a hamstring injury.
“It’s a very slight one, but with how cold it was, there was no reason to take any chances,” Laures said. “I know she was itching to get out there, but I didn’t want to take any chances. Why take a slight problem and make it a huge one.”
