Can’t keep them down
The Nashua-Plainfield boys basketball team split a pair of games last week, falling 70-34 at home to Mason City Newman Catholic on Tuesday before bouncing back to take a 78-50 victory on the road at Central Springs on Friday.
Husky coach Sam Brown pointed out the big differences in the intensity of his team, and how it changed from Tuesday to Friday.
On Tuesday, the Newman defense stifled the Husky scoring, surging to a 26-8 lead through the first quarter. Nashua-Plainfield was held to under 10 points in three of the four quarters, and none of the Huskies were able to reach double figures in the contest, as senior Dayton Hansen led N-P in scoring with eight points while freshman Austin Bienemann and senior Mitchell Malven added seven points each.
It was the 11th straight win for Newman, now 11-4 on the season. Senior Joe Scholl and junior Josh Fitzgerald had 14 points apiece to lead Newman.
“On Tuesday, we just came out without a sense of urgency,” he said.
