Banner season comes to end for the Trojans

The good news for next year, should Turkey Valley’s boys meet up with Rockford again in the postseason, is that four of the five Warrior starters that were on the floor while defeating the Trojans  — along with two players that came off the bench — were seniors. 
That doesn’t help the lone senior starter for Turkey Valley, though. Jason Herold was suffering after the 60-53 season-ending district loss Tuesday night.
“Losing to the same team we lost to in the first round of football playoffs really stings,” said Herold. But he brightened some when he talked about the way the Trojan season went.
“We went from four wins in my freshman year to 18 wins this year. And our fans were great tonight, I wouldn’t trade them for anything in the world. A lot of them made that hour drive.”
Although Turkey Valley had a 10-9 lead with 2:34 left in the first quarter, the Warriors closed out the period with a 10-0 run, which included a couple 3-point shots, for a 19-10 lead at the quarter’s close.
“We got the ball inside and got great looks but we weren't converting early on,” said coach Chris Sullivan. “It seemed like anytime we hit a big shot they answered us.”
The Trojans scored the first six points of the second quarter on shots by Eli Nymeyer, Kannon Leuenberger and a pair of free throws by Eli Reicks.
