Back in the saddle
Conner Rochford remembers the play well.
Who wouldn’t?
It was a forgettable moment for the New Hampton High School senior last fall when a couple of seconds wiped out his junior football season.
After throwing for almost 300 yards through the air in the season opener against Aplington-Parkersburg, Rochford went to the sidelines late fourth quarter. The Chickasaw signal caller was in a decent amount of pain after attempting to make a tackle at his safety position on defense.
The diagnosis was not good – a torn ligament in his thumb. He was done for the season.
“My hand was one way and the thumb went the other way,” said Rochford.
Rochford is just one of several key performers back in 2020 that have high aspirations for Chickasaw head coach Scott Frerichs.
The goal is to get back to the playoffs after a 5-4 campaign that could have used that win against A-P.
